ALLAN JAFFE’S career as a guitarist and composer has spanned a wide range of musical forms, from jazz, blues, funk and ragtime, to opera, music theater, and the art song.
Mysterioso features 10 original songs. These compositions grew out of the need for attractive musical repertoire for the plectrum guitarist. In writing them, Allan thought about the plethora of repertoire books for the young pianist, such as Bach’s “Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach” and Schumann’s “Album for the Young”, and decided to provide the plectrum guitarist with comparable music while addressing many of the guitarists' unique technical challenges.read more►
In the first twenty years of the 20th century, an unprecedented phenomenon erupted into
the world of Western music. For the first time, a form of popular music which was a true fusion of African-American and Western European musical traditions emerged. Although it began as an oral form played by pianists in the bars and brothels of several major American cities, thanks to the publishing houses, it quickly spread through the United States and eventually Europe. Guitarist/Composer Allan Jaffe has performed in a multitude of different situations, from being a sideman to such jazz greats at Maceo Parker, Julius Hemphill, co-leading the avant-funk band, Slickaphonics, to performing with the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. As a composer he has written an opera and two musicals, as well as many songs for guitar and voice.
