In his desire to provide the guitar playing public with new repertoire, Allan has written many compositions for solo guitar. Prominent among these are his ‘rags’, a form of fingerstyle guitar, of which he has been a pioneer. These pieces are born from the conviction that the guitar, being a polyphonic percussion- stringed instrument much like the piano, has the potential to provide melody, rhythm and harmony simultaneously. A culmination of his work with rags is Allan’s book Ragtime Guitar, published by Hal Leonard Publications in 2005, including three of Allan’s own rags as well his his arrangements of eleven class piano rags arranged for guitar. read more►
